November 21 – Juba Electrification Day – has been declared National Electricity Day and will from the next 20 year be observed as such – the President of the world’s newest nation has spoken.

He also wished all Juba residents a bright and colourful ‘electricity day’, urging the residents to enjoy the historic day and not shy away from assembling around any of the road lights in town.

“I have told my security personnel to allow you the residents to congregate around road lights and traffic lights or even bath or shower in the customs and seven-days swimming-pool-roundabouts to celebrate…So wish yourselves a happy electricity day!”

Earlier on, fears started to go around town that extra troops where being deployed to protect the new road lights.

“The rumours that we are deploying forces to protect traffic lights, some nice-looking road lights and the customs and seven-days swimming-pool-roundabouts are not true, so enjoy the electricity…,” the President confirmed.

On his part, the Minister of Electricity, Traffic Lights, and Road Lights told the residents that the prize for charging their mobile devices will now drop drastically. He promised to talk to mobile operators to include phone-battery units to the airtime and Internet bundles that can be bought and loaded on a phone with a scratch-card.

“Because of its significance, I have declared this day a national holiday dedicated to you the citizens to enjoy electricity,” said the President.
